No Jeans Friday

A secret about me, I hate jeans.  You will very rarely see me wearing a true pair of jeans; waxed denim, maybe; colored denim, sure; but a tried-and-true pair of jeans, eh, not so much.  The truth is, I'm more comfortable in skirts and dresses and well, I haven't found that perfect-for-me fit.  I travel often, so I want to be comfortable while still appearing put-together.  Since I live in Chicago, skirts and dresses aren't always practical, so here are some of my fav denim alternatives:

BCBG Luca Pleather Contrast Legging (on sale for $72.99 at http://www.zappos.com/bcbgmaxazria-luca-pleather-contrast-legging-black?ef_id=UVJV9wAABBrei3II:20140103011809:s) is great for an on-the-go lifestyle.  I recently purchased these on sale at Bloomingdale's and have since lived in them.  They are super comfortable but sleek.  The leather contrast gives an edgy vibe.  I have worn these with a UK tee and short booties to a Kentucky game and a blazer and tank on a date.  The best part, the rayon, nylon, spandex mix is thick enough to avoid that "leggings are not pants" fashion bust.

A classy but modern sweatpant…sign me up.  Check out these J.Crew Collection tailored sweatpants in velvet in deep burgundy ($288 at http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/pants/croppedtrousers/PRDOVR~08626/08626.jsp).  Pair with a chambray for running errands, a blouse for work or a sequin tank for a night out.

These By Maline Birger leopard pants ($88, on sale, here http://www.lyst.com/clothing/by-malene-birger-denim-trousers-grey/?_country=US&gclid=CLaLi7Du4LsCFSISMwodEBkAdA) provide an instant pop of pattern.  Okay, so technically these are "denim," but the muted leopard print is a fun way to dress up the plain-white-tee and a chic blazer.

Topshop High Shine Leggings ($36 at http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/topshop-high-shine-leggings/3590908?origin=category-personalizedsort&contextualcategoryid=0&fashionColor=&resultback=2127&cm_sp=personalizedsort-_-browseresults-_-1_7_D).  I was hesitant with these at first because I wanted to avoid looking like I had transformed a garbage bag into clothing.  However, these leggings are not overly shiny and look great with an oversized sweater to excite your look.

These Sleek Pencil Pants from The Limited earned me the nickname "hot pants" at work (on sale for $39.99 at http://www.thelimited.com/product/sleek-pencil-pants/6899358.html?dwvar_6899358_colorCode=597&ppid=c5&start=5&cgid=sale-pants&cid=AFC-LINK-J84DHJLQkR4&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=J84DHJLQkR4).  I have them in cobalt blue and black as well.  The bright, slim style is an easy way to redefine your office look.

Enjoy.

xoxo
